NDTimer is an iPhone App useful for calculating and timing long exposures when using one or two neutral density (ND) filters.

Pros and cons of NDTimer app for iPhone and iPad

NDTimer app good for

The app works as advertised. A plus is that it provides info in 1/3 stops rather than full stops. That takes all the math out and lets you concentrate on other things. It only goes to 15 stops and with the fabulous new 16 stop Firecrest filter by Hitech and the soon to be released 20 stop by Singh-Ray, it seems that the app is due for an update.
Im sure its obvious once its explained, but I cannot find any use for the hold button. When pressed, it holds nor releases nothing. Other than that, its an excellent app.

Some bad moments

Great alternative to doing the math in my head. Works as advertised. Has a nice UI, lets me stack my polarizer, and the countdown timer for exposures over 30 seconds is a nice touch. Wish it had a bulb mode where custom shutter speeds could be entered to be more useful with night photography.
I really like this app, especially the feature that allows you to get exposure times for stacked filters. Very cool. The only reason I gave the app 4 stars instead of five is because you are only given a countdown timer for exposures over 30 seconds. And, if this is to be the ND app to end all ND apps then the countdown timer is going to have to go all the way down to at least 1 second (like NDCalc does, an app which I also own). Add that in the next update and Id be an extremely happy camper. Overall, an excellent app. Thanks guys!
Used this just this morning and it worked flawlessly. I was doing long exposures so a few seconds one way or the other didnt matter, but I was happy to have this app so I wouldnt have to embarrass myself by doing math on the iPhone calculator.
This app has proven very useful to me when taking long exposure shots. Easy to use, and saves me from having to spend time calculating exposure times!
Why you call an ND of 10 stops ND 1024? Are they Hoya numbers? An ND of 1 Stop ND 2? . I use Lee and most of the others Ive seen use .3. .6 .9 3 for a full 10 stops..
This app works exactly as I had hoped. Take a shot without your ND and note the shutter speed your cameras meter calculates. Then enter that speed into this app and boom, youve got your shutter speed when using the ND.
